Detailed Therapy Evaluations
Thoughtful assessments supporting personalized recovery and wellness.
What to Expect
What to do prior to your appointment: We ask that you shower and cleanse the pelvic area. Do not put any lotions or oils on your skin in your pelvic area, including your rectal area, as it may make it harder for the electrode to stick. Please wear comfortable clothing such as skirts, dresses, or sweatpants that are easier to remove from the waist down during the session.
Session Details
Treatment: The treatment consists of 10 initial 20-minute treatments scheduled 1 week apart. After each session, we will assign you a home-based exercise that you can do at home until the next visit.
Risks: Potential side effects associated with PFR treatment may include slight discomfort after the session in the pelvic area.
Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Sessions Include
Sacral Nerve Assessment
We use the Uroval Bulbocavernosus Reflex System (BRS) for sacral nerve dysfunction by combining surface electromyography (EMG) with mechanical stimulation to give an objective measure of the bulbocavernosus reflex without using electrical stimulation. This is a completely pain-free procedure for the patient.
Pressure-Based Muscle and EMG Assessment
We use the new MyOnyx system, allowing a painless, noninvasive technique to evaluate the strength and damage done to the pelvic floor. EMGs will help with awareness of using the wrong muscle, such as the stomach (accessory) muscle, to compensate for a weak pelvis.
Electrical Stimulation
We use a 200 Hz stim unit to activate the nerves with a specifically designed TENS system. This machine will enable us to directly stimulate the nerves in an effective, painless, and non-invasive manner.
Pelvic Floor Exercise
These home-based exercises will be assigned weekly based on patient muscle strength. The treatment consists of 10-12 initial 20 minute treatments scheduled 1 week apart. After each session.
